Do you practice Hung Kyun, other style of gungfu or martial arts and you are not satisfied? Or you are a beginner and you want to start to train Hung Kyun as it is taught in our associaton? It is not important WHAT (= style) do you practice, but WHO (= master/disciple) and HOW (= method) are you taught and practice – when two do the same thing, it is not the same thing.

What does the teaching encompass in the first 6-12 months?

Strength and Conditioning (lin gung): fundamental lin gung drills (geui bun gung): breathing exercises (noi gung), basic stances and stance training, breakfalls, strengthening and conditioning exercises, stretching; specialised lin gung drills using sandbags, focus mitts, kicking shields, rattan ring, medicineballs, kettlebells etc. - Techniques and Sets (lin kyun): fundamental drills (saan sik – footwork, kicks, strikes, takedowns, submissions) – stationary and with steps; fundamental Hung Kyun set – “taming of the tiger in I pattern” (gung ji fuk fu kyun)
- Sparring Exercises (deui lin): application drills (saan sau) – training drills (stances, footwork, body movemement, application of the fundamental drills, and techniques form the first set, “long bridges”, “short bridges” etc.); reality based self-defense scenarios (attack, counter attack; defense against most common types of attack – lapel hold, headbutt, pushing and pulling, headlock, clinch, guillotine, stikes, groin kick, low kick etc.); sparring set (deui chaak) “taming of the tiger in I pattern” (gung ji fuk fu kyun deui chaak); sparring drills (upper gate, middle gate, lower gate, left/right and inside/outside gate, long range, middle range, short range; kicks, strikes, takedowns, submissions); free fighting (saan da) – with and without protective equippment
- Theory (kyun lei): history, concepts, principles, tactics and strategy
Requirements:
- sincerity, politeness, “martial virtues” (mou dak)
- passion for martial arts, “heart”
- willingness to work hard
