Ironpalm...by what you just said could you please watch this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a06PyAI7NLc&feature=related
and say if you think it looks more like Boxing than HG to you?
It's not a pissing contest...people can ask can't they? |
I really hope it's not a pissing contest and that we can discuss and exchange ideas without getting upset. As long as people don't think I'm trying to be disrespectful of other people's training and way of fighting with my comments, I'll continue this on the other thread as PM suggests. Sorry if my comment hijacked it.
As a quick explanation, I wrote my comment because it's not what I'm used to seeing as Hung Gar. I wanted to know if others are training the same way and how they feel about it. I didn't realize that this was already discussed in a previous thread. From PM's link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GdxrbowD5s , this is what I have been learning in Hung Gar and how I have been trained, I felt very "at home" watching it. The first video is very different for me as Hung Gar.
To address the video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a06PyAI7NLc&feature=related ) that Subitai sent vs. the first video I commented on, I see two very different videos. They are not the same to me.
I will continue this on the other link:

PM, You misunderstand me....
I only used the words "Pissing Contest" because i've exchanged Private messages with a certain person on this board and He said that he refused to answer certan questions because in his opinion....
"It always turns into a Pissing Contest" I think he's wrong because this board is pretty good about that.
So anyway the words were NOT aimed at you or your school.
If anything PM...you should be honored because you do allot to further Hung Style.
I only suggested "Ironpalm" to view your video to see what his opinion is...that's all.

"O", man, no worries, no offense taken, no problem, i meant what i wrote. imho the forum really does a good job, the atmosphere is generally nice and polite (one family!), and even if the opinions may differ, it is a great platform to see other points of view and learn something. all the best, looking forward to read/see more from you! _________________ Pavel Macek

Hi everybody. I am Alberto Biraghi, the guy on the right of the picture with master Chan posted by FrankyLau. On the far left thers' my friend Marco and on sifu's left my former wife Ela. The picture has been taken in 1977, during my first visit to Hon Chung Gymnasium. I have been spending at least one month in Hong Kong every summer learning all the style from master Chan and from his senior students mostly Cheung Yee keung and Kong Pui Wai, until sifu's death in 1991. I have always been studying with Sifu until he could really teach, in mid Eighties, then, after Hon Chung Gymn was closed, I moved to Cheung Yee Keung si-hing's gymn, for some years after Sifu's death.
I learned all the style in Hong Chun Gymnasium but Tit Sin Kuen, which I learned in Sifu's country house in the New territories because he didn't want other students to watch. I don't practise the weapons anymore (I am 56 now) but I practise every day the Tit Sin and at least two of the other bare hand forms.
In mid 90's I saw an ad of mr. Cangelosi (whom I dind't know, nor I saw or heard of in Hong Chung Gymnasium) teaching in a Hung Kuen workshop in Milano. I decided to approach him mostly because I wanted to find somebody to talk with about sifu Chan and the students, whom I really missed. I did not feel welcome by mr. Cangelosi, so I left the place.
Seing my face on this page has been nice. If anybody is interested in further information, for what I may help, please feel free to write.

Welcome Alberto,
It is really great to hear from some students of Chan Hon Chung.
I have been studying under one of Chan Hon Chung's students in Canada for a while.
I am looking forward to hearing more about your experiences. |
